Bollhoff has opened its new production site in Izmir, Turkiye. Around 100 guests attended the opening ceremony, including representatives from local politics, from IZBAS free zone where the new building is located, and from the Bollhoff sites in Bielefeld and Chambery.
They all gained an insight into the state-of-the-art production facility in Izmir, in which Bollhoff have invested a total of around 20 million euros.
As Bollhoff's 15th production facility worldwide, the new site primarily supplies the close-by European market - in line with the company's 'local for local' approach. The new production facility significantly increases Bollhoff's manufacturing capacity for the whole of Europe.
Over 100 million fasteners can be manufactured in Izmir per year, initially with around 30 employees. RIVKL blind rivet nuts and AMTEC threaded inserts are produced on site on a total floor space of 11,000 m2 (or 1.5 football pitches) on two floors.
"The opening of this plant is a milestone for the Bollhoff Group, said Michael W Bollhoff, Managing Partner of Bollhoff Group and member of company management. "The site stands for long-term partnership with the region of Izmir and reliability of supply for our customers in Europe."
One key reason for the new facility in Izmir was that production capacities at established European production sites, such as Bielefeld and Chambery, have been stretched in the past. This sometimes required Bollhoff to ship additional deliveries from its production facility in Wuxi, China, to meet customer demand in Europe.
The additional production capacities in Turkiye will now allow Bollhoff to supply customers at a competitive price from Europe - a plus for customers as well as for our carbon footprint in the logistics chain.
The Turkish market will also benefit from the locally manufactured fasteners from Izmir. Bollhoff has been present in Turkiye for almost 20 years now with a sales office in the metropolis of Istanbul.
"The Izmir plant is where our long-term vision becomes reality: a place from where we can supply our European customers with high-quality standard fasteners at a fair cost and with passionate people," said Thierry Morin, CEO of Bollhoff France and Project Manager for the Bollhoff Group's construction project in Izmir.
Production at the Izmir site has already started, and the on-site quality management system has been certified according to ISO 9001. Further certifications for the automotive industry (IATF 16949) and Bollhoff's environmental management system (ISO 14001) are planned for 2026 and 2027.
The new building also offers sufficient reserves for future growth. Of the entire 11,000 m2 of floor space, part of the space in the building's second floor is currently still free. In the coming years, additional employees are to be added in Izmir, increasing the number of employees on site to around 50 by 2027.
