Southco has expanded its popular range of position control hinges with a new version that has been specifically designed for fold-out tables in passenger transit interior applications
Although Southco developed these new hinges for the transportation sector, it warrants a mention here because we can see other applications across industry that might also benefit from using it. The new AH-20 Bifold Constant Torque Hinge from Southco uses friction to increase control of 180° fold-out tables, preventing the flaps from falling open during operation and thus improving the end user experience.
The company says that its new Constant Torque Hinge provides consistent, smooth operation, allowing users to safely position fold-out tables on moving vehicles such as trains, aeroplanes and coaches. Integrated constant torque allows the table to be held in position at any angle, preventing it from falling open whilst a vehicle is in motion. With improved aesthetics and enhanced reliability, Southco sees the AH-20 is a worthy upgrade from traditional free-swinging hinges and dampening devices.
The new hinges occupy minimal space, allowing surfaces to deploy and then fold or be stowed flat. They are strongly made says Southco, as well as maintenance-free and combine controlled motion with a flush design that eliminates pinch points along the joint.
