Taking action to contribute towards a sustainable future has been high on the bigHead agenda since early 2019 and the company has achieved carbon neutral status each year since then.
In July 2023, Bighead took a significant step by installing 130 solar photovoltaic panels on the roof of its Verwood premises. These panels now generate clean electricity for the company's operations and export excess energy to the grid, significantly reducing Bighead's CO2 emissions.
Now the company is reporting on its achievements, recorded in February 2025:
- A 28% reduction in KGCO2 emissions from Scope1&2 from 2023 (25mt) to 2024 (18mt) These18mt have been offset through the Kenyan Biogas Programme (via Gold Standard Marketplace).
- Generated 35% (27MWh) of the electricity which the company consumed itself.
- Exported 20MWh of electricity to the grid.
- 28mt CO2e reduction equivalent, through bigHead employees 'OnHand' voluntary activities over the past 12 months.
- 729 trees planted due to bigHead employees OnHand activities over the past 12 months.
- All the electricity Bighead needs to buy comes from Good Energy and is from 100% renewable sources.
The task of reducing carbon emissions on a world-wide basis seems daunting but it cannot be denied that every single effort, however small, makes a difference. Bighead is committed to making further improvements in its endeavours towards sustainability.
